All
levels of government are well represented in the Bay Area. Because of
the centralized location of our cities on the Oregon coast, and because
the Bay Area is a population center, we are home to numerous federal,
state and regional government entities. These include the U.S. Coast
Guard, the Bureau of Land Management, Oregon State Parks and Recreation,
Oregon State Police and more. Government entities contribute
significantly to our quality of life and employment base.

Local Tax - Within
all of Coos County (including land within city limits), the real
property tax rate for residential, commercial, farm, industrial, utility
and timber property is $15 per $1,000 of market value. The only increase
above this is in cases of bonded debt, which various taxing districts in
Coos County do have. Oregon
does not impose a sales tax. Individuals, estates, trusts, part-year
residents and non-residents with income from Oregon sources pay Oregon
income taxes. Corporations doing business in Oregon pay excise taxes.
Oregon tax information is available from the Oregon
Department of Revenue, 955 Center Street NE, Salem OR 97310, (503)
378-4988.
